It was believed that a native warrior smacked the stones with a hammer or spear

and it appears hard enough to take at least a matte polish

This material is from an old estate sale. So far as I know, it was never mined or marketed. It does have some really nice looking plume and marcasite in some of it, but it is hard to photograph due to the darker color scheme and the poor lighting here.
