It's set with a octagonal flat cut garnet
It's modelled in 15k gold and dates from circa 1870
they are thought to have been first brought to Europe in great numbers from Sri Lanka [Ceylon] by the Dutch East India Company in the 17th Century
An inscription to the inner band (partially rubbed) reads: "Thomas Luc- ob Feb 24th ---- aet 24"
