 Wine Dinner

featuring the wines of…

Anomaly Vineyards

Camellia Café

Thursday, March 6

Please welcome Gerich Fellerman, assistant winemaker at Anomaly Vineyards, to Daphne next week, where he will present a three-year vertical of the critically acclaimed Anomaly Cabernet Sauvignon next to the flavor-packed cuisine of Chef Ryan Glass. Wines from the 2002, 2003, and 2004 growing seasons will make up the vertical featured in this exclusive dinner. Anomaly Vineyards is located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains just west of the town of St. Helena. From the six acres of vineyards planted to the Bordeaux varietals cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot, owners Steve and Linda Goldfarb specialize in the production of just one wine, the Anomaly Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Mark Porembski, formerly of Behrens & Hitchcock, frames the grace of the vineyard in each successive vintage. Please don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to savor consecutive vintages of the Anomaly Cabernet Sauvignon paired with epicurean cuisine from the South…

Anomaly Vineyards is located at the base of the western hills of California's Napa Valley in the small town of St. Helena. Anomaly specializes in the production of the highest quality cabernet sauvignon. The operation is owned by Steve and Linda Goldfarb, who acquired a small parcel of land adjacent to the famed Hayne Vineyard in 1997. The Goldfarbs decided to try their luck at making wine that fall. Relying on instinct and the integrity of the vineyard, they came out with their first vintage was a tiny 30-case production that found its way into the cellars of friends and a few local enophiles. Buoyed by its success, the Goldfarbs endeavored to obtain a permit to build a small winery adjacent to their vineyard. In the fall of 2000, a permit was finally secured to build a stone winery with a 2000-square-foot underground cave, thus allowing them to produce estate cabernet sauvignon. Anomaly’s first “estate” release, which consisted of 300 cases, sold out immediately. Today, production does not exceed 1000 cases.

All fruit for Anomaly is grown on the three vineyards that surround the winery site. The 2001 vintage was made entirely from the grapes of the Bella Vista and Faloon vineyards. In October 2000, five more acres of prime cabernet land were purchased adjacent to Anomaly's existing vineyards. Vineyard manager Doug Wight oversaw the planting of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and petit verdot vines in the spring of 2001. The new vineyard was christened Indee's Vineyard in honor of the owners’ husky-shepherd, an image of whom is represented on the wine’s label. Indee's Vineyard began providing harvestable fruit in the fall of 2003. In 2005, the Goldfarbs purchased an additional two acres to add to Indee’s Vineyard. This parcel is currently being planted to petit verdot, as well as to Clone 4 and Clone 6 cabernet sauvignon vines. When these final two acres are in production, Anomaly Vineyards will harvest grapes from a total of eight acres, representing four different cabernet sauvignon clones, 2 petit verdot clones, and one type of cabernet franc.

Winemaker Mark Porembski came to Anomaly via Behrens & Hitchcock, where he has spent the past four years as assistant winemaker to Les Behrens. Mark brings a fresh, talented hand to Anomaly’s winemaking as well as the eye of an artist. He is among a new crop of young winemakers that believes winemaking is an act of interpretation. Before landing at Anomaly Vineyards, Mark held positions at El Molino, Far Niente Winery, and Blake Family Vineyards in New Zealand. For more information, visit www.anomalyvineyards.com.
